String Theory is a contender for the \u201ctheory of

in physics.\u201d<\/div>\n
After 40 <\/span>years of <\/span>intense ef<\/span>fort <\/span>(and
\n failur<\/span>e) <\/span>by String <\/span>Theory\n <\/div>\n
advocates to <\/span>make
\n pr<\/span>edictions which <\/span>can <\/span>de\ue0c4nitively<\/span><\/div>\n
be tested <\/span>by experiment,
\n <\/span>String Theory <\/span>is nevertheless\n <\/div>\n
essentially accepted <\/span>by
\n its <\/span>many and <\/span>often quite-eminent\n <\/div>\n
scienti\ue0c4c community <\/span>proponents
\n <\/span>because of <\/span>it\u2019<\/span>s <\/span>elegance,\n <\/div>\n
its conceptual <\/span>aesthetic
\n appeal, <\/span>and its <\/span>relative power <\/span>vis \u00e0 <\/span><\/div>\n
vis other <\/span>contending theories. <\/span>As well, <\/span>there is <\/span>the hope <\/span>of its <\/span><\/div>\n
advocates that <\/span>in the
\n <\/span>future <\/span>ther<\/span>e may <\/span>be <\/span>some measurable\n <\/div>\n
consequences. On <\/span>net
\n balance <\/span>to date, <\/span>it is a <\/span>noble
\n ef<\/span>fort by\n <\/div>\n
many hundr<\/span>eds of <\/span>scientists to <\/span>transcend <\/span>mortal
\n and <\/span>curr<\/span>ent<\/span><\/div>\n
scienti\ue0c4c limitations.<\/div>\n
Thus, in Physics, which demands as an almost
\n inviolable\n <\/div>\n
sine qua non (essential condition) testability<\/span>, provability <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
and ultimately proof, in this instance an untested
\n and\n <\/div>\n
unproven theory is nevertheless held in the
\n highest\n <\/div>\n
possible (international) esteem.<\/div>\n
Note that Metaphysics, which more often than not\n <\/div>\n
probes the in\ue0c4nite, the transcendent, and
\n universal\n <\/div>\n
cosmic axioms, does not requir<\/span>e scienti\ue0c4c proof per se<\/span>. It\n <\/div>\n
inviolably requir<\/span>es,
\n however<\/span>, the absence of contradiction <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
